A portable low-cost open-source electrical Project Details
| Abstract |
EIT is a nonβinvasive, radiationβfree imaging method that builds a picture of a subjectβs internal conductivity from electrical measurements taken at the surface. This project creates a portable, lowβcost, openβsource EIT system using a modular analog frontβend. The hardware centers on an STM32 microcontroller and an AD5933 impedance converter, which together generate and measure alternating currents with high precision. A multiplexing network switches the excitation signals and records the resulting boundary voltages from a multiβelectrode array. Because the analog frontβend is modular, signal loss is minimized and the electrode layout can be changed easily. The collected impedance data are sent to a host computer, where reconstruction software turns the boundary
voltages into realβtime tomographic images. This implementation offers a practical platform for academic research and clinical prototyping, providing a costβeffective alternative to commercial EIT systems. The accompanying documentation covers hardware calibration, firmware development, and integration of the reconstruction algorithm, giving students handsβon experience with biomedical instrumentation and embeddedβsystem design.
