Prototyping inductive conductivity sensor wide Project Details

Abstract

Inductive conductivity sensors provide a contactless way to monitor fluids, so they avoid the electrode‑polarization problems of traditional contact sensors. This project looks at building and testing a low‑cost inductive conductivity sensor that uses a novel tubular inductor design. By not using multi‑turn toroidal windings, the sensor works better at high frequencies and can measure a wide range of conductivities. The design includes an analytical model based on Maxwell’s equations to choose the right size and magnetic core, and it studies how high‑frequency ferrite materials affect performance. The drive and measurement electronics use inexpensive parts such as a NanoVNA vector network analyzer and high‑frequency operational amplifiers, allowing measurements from 50

kHz up to 100 MHz. A fluid‑circulation loop is set up to test how the sensor reacts to different fluid conductivities. Project support focuses on hardware prototyping, sensor calibration, and signal acquisition, giving a clear framework for testing contactless electromagnetic sensing in water‑quality monitoring. This work helps students learn about electromagnetic induction, analog front‑end design, and RF measurement techniques.
