Corrigendum “Climate action shipping industry Project Details

Abstract

This research looks at using nuclear power to help the shipping industry meet its tough emission goals. Modern small modular reactors (SMRs) have a very high energy density and produce no emissions, so they could replace heavy‑fuel‑oil engines for ship propulsion and onboard electrical microgrids. The work concentrates on modeling, simulating, and doing transient analysis of marine power systems that include a nuclear reactor. It checks how the ship’s electrical distribution network reacts to changes in propulsion load and sea conditions. It also studies adding energy‑storage devices to smooth out load swings, which helps keep the reactor thermally stable and the electrical grid reliable. By running detailed system‑level simulations, the

study creates a framework to evaluate the technical feasibility, safety limits, and power‑management strategies needed for nuclear‑powered commercial ships. The results can guide future maritime electrification plans and aid in designing robust control systems for zero‑emission shipping.
