Design Policy Framework Climate-Optimized Electric Project Details
| Abstract |
Shifting to electric vehicles (EVs) is an essential part of the fight against global warming and for promoting sustainable transportation. However, EV technology has yet to be developed in countries such as Bangladesh, where certain climatic, infrastructural, and political factors present unique challenges. This research aims to develop the first design and policy frameworks for climate-optimized EV battery systems in Bangladesh. This research focuses on improving battery safety, performance, and sustainability in tropical conditions. One of the most important challenges is the climate of Bangladesh, where high temperatures and humidity affect the performance of lithium-ion batteries. Such conditions lead to thermal stress, rapid battery degradation, and decreased battery efficiency. This
project will look at different types of battery thermal management systems (BTMS) to minimize the impacts of Bangladesh's extreme humidity and heat on lithium-ion batteries. The types of BTMS to be studied include air and liquid cooling systems and phase change materials. The objective is to provide optimized BTMS for Bangladesh at the lowest economic cost. Furthermore, the research aims to identify existing policies and regulatory frameworks for facilitating electric mobility in Bangladesh and to fill identified policy gaps.
