Enabling Factors Industrial Symbiosis Construction Project Details
| Abstract |
This M.Tech project delves into the critical role of Industrial Symbiosis (IS) as a circular economy strategy to mitigate the significant environmental challenges associated with Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW) and the extensive extraction of virgin resources. Despite IS offering substantial opportunities for simultaneously reducing resource consumption and waste generation, its adoption within the CDW and recycled aggregates sectors remains fragmented. This limited uptake is largely due to a lack of a robust, sector-specific understanding of the enabling conditions essential for its effective implementation. This research addresses this crucial knowledge gap by developing a structured and empirically grounded framework that identifies and characterizes the key enabling factors for IS in
the CDW and recycled aggregates sectors. The study posits that successful IS implementation is shaped by a set of tightly interrelated enabling factors, operating as a systemic configuration rather than as isolated components. The findings contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the contextual conditions necessary to foster circular economy practices, thereby promoting sustainable resource management and waste reduction in the construction industry.
