enhancing mechanical properties of natural fiber composites Project Details
| Abstract |
This research project evaluates the mechanical performance of hybrid naturalβfiber composites that use agricultural waste as filler. It compares nonβwoven bananaβfiber/epoxy (NWBF/EP) composites with hybrid versions that also contain walnut powder (WNP) as a second filler (NWBF/EP/WNP). The study looks at how changing the weight percent of WNP affects tensile, flexural, and impact properties. The results show that adding WNP up to a certain limit improves stiffness and strength. The highest tensile strength recorded is 76.7 MPa for the BW4 formulation, and the highest flexural strength is 43.6 MPa at 20 wt % loading. Adding more WNP reduces the amount of epoxy, which lowers the mechanical performance. Impact toughness reaches
its maximum of 5.2 J for the BW3 formulation. For M.Tech students, the project offers a clear framework to study fiberβmatrix adhesion, filler distribution, and how to optimize particulateβreinforced naturalβfiber composites. Fried Engineers provides guidance on research direction, experimental design, testing procedures, and microstructural analysis for these hybrid composites.
