Fatigue Life Mapping Rubber Isolators Project Details
| Abstract |
This research aims to create a method for mapping the fatigue life of rubber isolators using two energyβbased criteria: maximum strain energy density and cyclic energy dissipation. Rubber parts under repeated loading show complex viscoelastic behavior, so traditional stressβ or strainβbased fatigue predictions are difficult. To overcome this, the project provides a framework that combines specimenβlevel fatigue test data with finite element analysis (FEA) to predict the fatigue life of complex rubber isolators. The approach starts by measuring the rubberβs hyperelastic and viscoelastic properties. Next, it evaluates cyclic energy dissipation and maximum strain energy density for different loading amplitudes. By linking the specimen fatigue life to these local energy criteria,
a reliable fatigueβlife prediction model is built. Support includes setting up the numerical simulation of the isolator under cyclic loads and checking the predicted fatigueβlife contours against experimental results. The work offers practical guidance for structuralβintegrity checks and durability assessments of elastomer components in automotive and aerospace applications.
