High CMRR Low Output Offset Project Details

Abstract

The need for constant blood pressure tracking often requires small, portable devices that utilize ballistocardiography (BCG). This project focuses on developing a current mode instrumentation amplifier (CMIA) designed to function as an analog front-end for use in BCG applications. The circuitry being proposed uses a differential configuration of a current output subtracting CMIA that has been designed for high common mode rejection ratio (CMRR). Additionally, for improved functionality, the design includes chopper stabilization and a DC servo loop (DSL). These methods are critical to reducing output offset voltages and offset drift due to changes in temperature, which is crucial during the acquisition of physical signals. The aim is to create

a CMIA with a high CMRR that will allow for greater accuracy in capturing BCG signals. The design is meant to work with low supply voltage of around 1.1V, and low power which makes it ideal for use in portable and wearable medical devices. To prove the design is practical, the performance metrics of CMRR, output offset, offset drift, gain and power consumption will need to be thoroughly analyzed in relation to low-amplitude physiological signals from BCG sensors.
