Implementation Hand Gesture Home Automation Project Details
| Abstract |
This project builds an assistive homeβautomation system that lets elderly and disabled people control appliances with hand gestures in real time. It works in the field of HumanβComputer Interaction (HCI) and replaces ordinary remote controls with a visual interface that is easy to use. A camera captures live video of the userβs hand. The software first runs a HaarβCascade detector to find and isolate the hand in each frame. Then a KβNearest Neighbors (KNN) classifier identifies the specific gesture being shown. When a gesture is recognized, the system creates a control signal and sends it to a microcontroller. The microcontroller drives relays that turn lights, fans, and other devices on
or off. By combining computerβvision methods with simple electrical circuits, the system offers handsβfree, reliable, and lowβlatency control of home appliances. Tests show that the HaarβCascade plus KNN approach maintains good detection accuracy and fast response even when ambient lighting changes, making it a practical alternative to typical smartβhome interfaces.
