Improved Processing Circuit MEMS Accelerometer Project Details
| Abstract |
This project develops and tests an improved signalβprocessing interface circuit that captures breathing signals with a MEMS accelerometer. Measuring respiration by detecting abdominal movement is hard because the signals are lowβfrequency and lowβamplitude, and they are easily affected by DC offset and drift. To solve this, the hardware adds a lowβpass filter that extracts the DC part of the sensor output, then a differential amplifier subtracts that DC offset and boosts the remaining dynamic breathing signal. The circuit also includes a selfβcalibration feature that uses the sensorβs physical position, so it works reliably no matter how the sensor is oriented. This material gives you the parts list and wiring details
for building the analog frontβend, and it lets you study the frequency response and signalβtoβnoise ratio of the processed breathing waveforms. The project is a handsβon example of biomedical instrumentation, showing how to reduce noise and condition lowβfrequency physiological signals.
