interaction and material parameters under variable load Project Details
| Abstract |
This project gives research guidance and handsβon help for evaluating a nonβlinear fatigueβdamage model thatβs meant for metallic aerospace structures under variableβamplitude loading. Conventional linear rules, like Minerβs hypothesis, ignore the order of loads and materialβspecific factors, so they often give unsafe life estimates. To fix these problems, the study sets up an advanced fatigue model that includes: – an exponential function of cycle life, – the materialβs elastic modulus, and – a specific loadβinteraction factor. With this approach you can compute the remaining fatigue life when a part experiences several different loading levels. The model is checked by running numerical simulations on smooth and notched specimens made from various
engineering metals. The simulations cover both highβtoβlow and lowβtoβhigh loading sequences. Results are compared with experimental data from the literature, with predictions from Minerβs rule, and with Aeranβs model. The comparison shows that the new model predicts fatigue life more accurately and is more robust. Overall, the project provides an academic resource for: – setting up fatigueβlife assessments, – studying how damage spreads, and – performing parametric sensitivity studies on loadβinteraction parameters in aerospace structural components.
