Investing Renewable Energy Projects Look Project Details
| Abstract |
This study looks at how renewable energy (RE) projects grew quickly in Vietnam from 2016 to 2023 and examines the problems of adding largeβscale solar and wind power to the national grid. It points out a big difference between the capacity that was approved on paper and the capacity that actually got built. Developers rushed to lock in attractive FeedβIn Tariff (FIT) rates, which led to serious grid overloads and stopped many finished RE plants from starting commercial operation. The paper identifies the main reasons for these bottlenecks: slow negotiations on electricity prices, weak regulatory reviews, and limits in the transmission network. For M.Tech students, it provides a base for
modeling grid congestion, assessing investment risks driven by policy, and creating better powerβsystem planning methods. Because the original work focuses on policy and qualitative capacity analysis, it contains little quantitative gridβsimulation data. Future work could build on this by simulating specific transmissionβline upgrades and adding battery energy storage systems (BESS) to reduce curtailment.
