Node-Level Privacy Preservation Mechanism Internet-of-Things Project Details
| Abstract |
This project looks at adding privacy protection to individual IoT devices by using Elliptic Curve Cryptography (ECC), which is fast and light on resources. As IoT spreads into critical areas, keeping lowβpower edge nodes safe from data theft and identity leaks is a big problem. Conventional cryptographic methods often require too much processing power and energy for tiny sensor nodes. To solve this, the project gives stepβbyβstep help for installing ECCβbased key exchange and encryption directly on each node. ECC lets us use much smaller keys while still providing strong security, so data and node identities stay protected while being sent over the network. Students are guided to either simulate
or build a small IoT network where each node runs its own cryptographic operations before sending data to a central gateway. The project then measures: – how long the processing takes (latency) – how much memory the code uses (footprint) – how much energy the microcontroller consumes These tests are run on several different microcontroller types. The whole package serves as a handsβon guide for research and implementation, helping students see the balance between security strength and the limited resources of modern IoT devices.
