P4FPID Toolbox Direct Advanced Interactions Project Details
| Abstract |
Fuzzy logic controllers (FLCs) can model complex automation systems using linguistic rules, but learning to design them usually means a lot of hands‑on testing. Most general‑purpose software packages are heavy on computation and do not give a dedicated, real‑time interactive interface. To solve these problems, this work introduces P4FPID, a toolbox built with Processing 4.4 that lets users work directly with fuzzy controllers. The program lets you set up, simulate, and connect to hardware in real time, so you can see the system’s response instantly through dynamic models. P4FPID also includes tools for studying fuzzy‑set subnormality—a feature that many standard control packages ignore—and it comes with an interactive genetic algorithm
that can run more than 20 different optimization scenarios. The toolbox can read and write MATLAB files and follows the IEC 61131 standard used for industrial PLCs. Its usefulness is shown on a classic ball‑and‑beam experiment, where it provides a clear, interactive view of how the controller behaves as you change parameters. P4FPID offers a simpler, faster alternative to traditional design suites, supporting both theory work and hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing.
