Reducing Harmonic Distortion Ship Power is a M.Tech project topic for Electrical Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Reducing Harmonic Distortion Ship Power Project Details
| Abstract |
Modern ship power systems often use nonβlinear loads. These loads create a lot of harmonic distortion, which can destabilize the isolated ship grid. This project looks at how a Shunt Active Power Filter (SAPF) can reduce those powerβquality problems in a simulated ship network. Three control methods are compared: the Synchronous Reference Frame (SRF) theory, the instantaneous activeβreactive power (PQ) theory, and a Peak detection control method. A mathematical model of the autonomous ship network is used to test each method. The evaluation focuses on how well each method lowers Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and how it affects the synchronous generatorβs variables. Results show that the Peak detection method gives
the best THD reduction and causes the least disturbance to the generator compared with SRF and PQ. The material gives M.Tech students stepβbyβstep guidance to model the control algorithms, study filterβgenerator interaction, and simulate powerβquality improvements in isolated marine grids.
