Research virtual synchronous machine ESO Project Details
| Abstract |
The project tackles the problem of frequency instability in gridβconnected photovoltaic (PV) systems, which arises from changes in sunlight and load demand. To calm these oscillations and improve the microgridβs shortβterm stability, we created a strong virtual synchronous machine (VSM) control method for the inverters that link the PV array to the grid. Our approach combines an Extended State Observer (ESO) with Terminal Sliding Mode Control (TSMC) inside the activeβpowerβfrequency control loop. The ESO works in real time to estimate and cancel unknown internal parameters and external disturbances. The TSMC drives the frequency error to zero quickly and within a finite time. We built a detailed PV system model in
MATLAB/Simulink to test how the new controller behaves. When we compared it with traditional virtual synchronous generator controls, the ESO + TSMC combo cut frequency overshoot, shortened the settling time, and made the microgrid more robust during strong disturbances. These results give practical guidance for applying advanced nonlinear control techniques in todayβs renewableβenergy power systems.
