String‐Like Time Flight Sensor Module Project Details
| Abstract |
This project looks at creating and testing a modular, string‑like Time‑of‑Flight (ToF) proximity sensor skin for collaborative robots (cobots). Most existing proximity skins are built for a single robot shape, which makes them expensive and hard to reuse on other robots. Our approach uses a flexible string made of several linked ToF sensors that can be wrapped around any robot link. The string can measure how far away obstacles are and where they are before the robot touches them. By getting real‑time position data from all the sensors, the robot’s controller can change its path or speed on the fly, avoiding collisions with people or objects. The work focuses on
three things: * integrating the sensor string into the robot hardware, * setting up a communication protocol that gathers data from all the sensors, and * programming collision‑avoidance control algorithms. We will evaluate performance by measuring detection latency, spatial resolution, and how well the sensor string works in different operating situations. The goal is to provide a scalable, low‑cost way to make human‑robot collaboration safer.
