Vector Control Technology Five‐Phase Induction Project Details

Abstract

Multiphase induction motors, particularly five-phase configurations, offer distinct advantages such as reduced torque pulsations, lower acoustic noise, and enhanced fault tolerance compared to conventional three-phase machines. However, the reliance on physical speed encoders compromises system reliability in harsh operating environments. To address this limitation, a sensorless vector control strategy utilizing a speed-adaptive full-order observer is presented. The control framework integrates the nearest four-vector space vector pulse width modulation (NFV-SVPWM) technique to modulate the five-phase inverter, ensuring a constant switching frequency and minimized harmonic losses. Based on the fundamental space mathematical model of the five-phase induction motor, a state-space representation of the full-order observer is formulated. The adaptation mechanism for rotor

speed estimation is mathematically derived using Lyapunov stability theory to guarantee closed-loop stability. For digital implementation, the bilinear transformation method is applied to discretize the continuous-time observer equations, preserving high discretization accuracy. This research direction provides comprehensive modeling, simulation, and implementation support for evaluating the dynamic and steady-state performance of the sensorless drive system under varying load conditions.
