sensorless robust control pmsg wind energy Project Details

Abstract

This research project focuses on the development and evaluation of a sensorless robust control framework designed for permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) based wind energy conversion systems (WECSs). To address the challenges of parameter uncertainties, external disturbances, and the high cost or reliability issues associated with physical speed sensors, a novel control topology is structured. The proposed methodology integrates a Smith predictor active disturbance rejection control (SP-ADRC) scheme within the speed control loop to mitigate time delays and dynamic variations under fluctuating wind profiles. Simultaneously, a sensorless estimation strategy is formulated by combining a sliding mode observer (SMO) with a phase-locked loop (PLL) to accurately reconstruct the rotor position and

speed of the PMSG. Through comprehensive numerical simulation and modeling, the performance of the SP-ADRC and SMO-PLL configuration is evaluated against conventional active disturbance rejection controllers. The implementation guidance focuses on assessing speed tracking accuracy, robustness against parameter mismatches, and overall power extraction efficiency under rapid wind speed variations. This research-backed framework provides structural support for advanced control design in modern renewable energy systems.
