A Comprehensive Review Unified Power Project Details

Abstract

This project gives step‑by‑step guidance and hands‑on support for studying Unified Power Quality Conditioner (UPQC) technology in today’s smart distribution networks. The fast growth of electric‑vehicle (EV) charging stations and of distributed renewable sources is causing noticeable power‑quality problems. The work lays out how to design, control, and evaluate UPQC systems, which combine series and shunt active power filters to reduce voltage and current disturbances at the same time. A key part of the project is a model of a UPQC connected to a distribution grid that also includes solar photovoltaic generation and an EV charging station. The model is built in MATLAB/Simulink and is used to run systematic simulations.

Different control methods are examined, including: – Synchronous reference‑frame theory – Instantaneous active‑reactive power (p‑q) theory These strategies are tested against common issues such as harmonics, voltage sags, swells, and phase unbalances. The material also reviews recent technological advances and discusses real‑world implementation challenges. It is organized as a practical development guide for undergraduate engineering students, helping them move from theory to a working MATLAB/Simulink model. The end goal is to design reliable power‑conditioning solutions that improve grid stability and power quality in modern, decentralized energy systems.
