TITLE ULTRA-LOW-RESOURCE CIVILIZATIONAL HABITATS AT Project Details
| Abstract |
This project looks at how to design and test environmental control and life support systems (ECLSS) for tiny habitats that have almost no resources. It builds on the idea of a Minimum Safe Civilization Habitat. The study examines how to make material reuse, waste handling, and resource recovery work together in very small spaces. Instead of just trying to shrink the size, the method models closedβloop systems that meet the essential needs: cleaning the air, reclaiming water, controlling temperature, and recycling biological waste. Thermodynamic and massβbalance simulations are used to see how far material reuse and energy efficiency can go when resources are extremely limited. The project also gives clear
steps for checking how well these microβhabitats can survive system failures. By linking habitat size, resource use, and waste production with numbers, the work helps create very efficient, closedβloop environmental engineering solutions for harsh, isolated, or spaceβlimited settings.
