Latency-Robust Adaptive Control Centralized Advanced Project Details
| Abstract |
This project looks at a latencyβrobust adaptive control method for managing active power at the point of common coupling (PCC) in centralized, gridβconnected microgrids. Wireless networks such as WiβFi often add communication delays that hurt powerβmanagement system (PMS) performance, sometimes causing instability or reverse power flow. The proposed approach reacts to realβtime network latency by automatically adjusting two key PMS parameters: the digital antiβaliasing filterβs cutoff frequency and the packet transmission rate (PTR). By retuning these values on the fly, the system stays stable and settles much faster than a controller that uses fixed parameters. We tested the adaptive framework with a controller hardwareβinβtheβloop (CHIL) setup. A realβtime simulator represented
the power system, while an external microcontroller ran the PMS algorithms. Experiments with both wired Ethernet and wireless WiβFi links showed that the adaptive control gave quicker transient responses, avoided instability when latency was high, and prevented reverse power flow by maximizing local selfβconsumption. The results demonstrate a reliable, lowβcost way to use wireless communication in advanced microgrid control designs.
