Deep soil mixing as effective Project Details

Abstract

This project shows how to assess deep soil mixing (DSM) as an on‑site method for stabilizing very compressible, low‑strength organic peat soils. First, we measure the geotechnical properties of the untreated peat. Then we find the best mix of stabilizers by using cement together with rice‑husk ash (RHA), an environmentally friendly additive. Laboratory tests are run on the treated mixtures to see how they behave physically and mechanically. We focus on: – undrained shear strength – moisture content – pH The test results are used to build and check a detailed finite‑element numerical model. Next, we run a parametric study that changes the main design variables of the DSM columns:

– column diameter – column length – area replacement ratio By varying these, we evaluate how the columns perform structurally. The outcome is a systematic framework for judging how well DSM improves the ground. It gives a clear picture of the load‑bearing capacity and the amount of settlement reduction that can be expected in soft soil layers. This work helps engineers choose the optimal DSM design parameters for difficult geotechnical projects.
