A Novel Approach MPPT Photovoltaic Project Details
| Abstract |
This study looks at how to improve maximum power point tracking (MPPT) in photovoltaic (PV) systems when the environment changes. It proposes a hybrid controller that mixes Sliding Mode Control (SMC) with an Iterative‑and‑Bisection (IB) method to drive a DC‑DC boost converter. The PV array and the converter are modeled mathematically so the equations capture their behavior at many operating points. Because traditional SMC suffers from chattering and a fixed hysteresis band, the new design uses an adaptive sliding surface. The sliding coefficients are updated in real time based on the measured solar irradiance. An equivalent control law is derived, and a Lyapunov‑based stability proof shows the system remains robust.
MATLAB/Simulink simulations test the adaptive controller with sudden (step) and gradual (ramp) changes in irradiance. The results show the controller tracks the maximum power point more accurately, reacts faster to transients, and reduces the hysteresis band dramatically compared with ordinary sliding‑mode approaches. Overall, the method offers a solid, high‑efficiency MPPT solution for real‑world renewable energy installations.
