Toward optimal twisting-sliding mode control Project Details

Abstract

This research-oriented project addresses the design and evaluation of an optimal twisting sliding mode control (OT-SMC) strategy for a three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) utilized in electric vehicle (EV) drivetrains. To mitigate the limitations of conventional proportional-integral (PI) controllers under dynamic operating conditions, a hybrid control framework is established by integrating sliding mode control (SMC) with a linear quadratic regulator (LQR). The control design incorporates an exponential reaching law within the twisting sliding mode control (T-SMC) formulation to guarantee system stability, minimize chattering, and enhance robustness against parameter uncertainties, variable load torques, and wide-ranging speed variations. The methodology involves modeling the mathematical dynamics of the PMSM, synthesizing the hybrid

OT-SMC algorithm, and validating its performance through comprehensive simulation studies. Performance metrics such as torque ripple reduction, speed tracking accuracy, and transient response under external disturbances are analyzed. This project provides structured guidance for the implementation, simulation, and comparative evaluation of advanced nonlinear control techniques for automotive traction applications.
