Latency-Robust Adaptive Control Centralized Advanced Project Details

Abstract

This project looks at a latency‑robust adaptive control method for managing active power at the point of common coupling (PCC) in centralized, grid‑connected microgrids. Wireless networks such as Wi‑Fi often add communication delays that hurt power‑management system (PMS) performance, sometimes causing instability or reverse power flow. The proposed approach reacts to real‑time network latency by automatically adjusting two key PMS parameters: the digital anti‑aliasing filter’s cutoff frequency and the packet transmission rate (PTR). By retuning these values on the fly, the system stays stable and settles much faster than a controller that uses fixed parameters. We tested the adaptive framework with a controller hardware‑in‑the‑loop (CHIL) setup. A real‑time simulator represented

the power system, while an external microcontroller ran the PMS algorithms. Experiments with both wired Ethernet and wireless Wi‑Fi links showed that the adaptive control gave quicker transient responses, avoided instability when latency was high, and prevented reverse power flow by maximizing local self‑consumption. The results demonstrate a reliable, low‑cost way to use wireless communication in advanced microgrid control designs.
