Heat treatment stress-relief optimisation laser Project Details
| Abstract |
This research project evaluates post-processing optimization strategies for Inconel 939 (IN939) superalloy components fabricated via laser powder bed fusion (PBF-LB). While additive manufacturing offers significant design flexibility for aerospace applications, high residual stresses and microstructural anisotropy necessitate precise thermal post-treatments to ensure component reliability. The investigation focuses on identifying optimal stress-relief annealing conditions to minimize geometric distortion without inducing detrimental phase transformations. Specifically, the effects of an 860 Β°C annealing temperature on cantilever deformation and phase stability are analyzed. Furthermore, the project examines the influence of three distinct heat treatment procedures on the resulting microstructure, hardness, tensile properties, and high-temperature creep resistance. Experimental or simulated evaluation of creep performance under
extreme conditions (870 Β°C and 100 MPa) is structured to correlate microstructural evolution with mechanical behavior. This project provides a systematic framework for analyzing the relationships between thermal processing parameters, phase distribution, and high-temperature performance in additively manufactured superalloys, supporting academic research in advanced powder metallurgy, phase kinetics, and materials characterization.
