Surface-modified magnetic polymeric–silver nanocomposites broad-spectrum Project Details

Abstract

This research-oriented project framework focuses on the development and evaluation of multifunctional magnetic polymeric-silver nanocomposites designed for broad-spectrum antibacterial applications. The methodology involves the synthesis of superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) integrated with polylactic acid (PLA) and an M8 polymer blend consisting of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), polyethylene glycol (PEG), polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP), and chitosan, combined with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). To optimize antibacterial efficacy and recovery potential, various surface modification strategies are analyzed, including carbon coating, selenium nanoparticle (SeNP) incorporation, and antibiotic loading. Characterization techniques such as Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FE-SEM), X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Energy-Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and Vibrating Sample Magnetometry (VSM) are utilized to

evaluate structural, morphological, and magnetic properties. The performance evaluation highlights the growth inhibition of pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Salmonella enterica, and Escherichia coli. This project provides implementation support and research direction for analyzing the synergistic mechanisms of electrostatic interactions, oxidative stress, and magnetic separation, offering a structured pathway for developing antibiotic-free antimicrobial materials in environmental and healthcare engineering.
