Immersive technology food science education is a M.Tech project topic for Chemical Engineering. It gives students a clear starting point for research, implementation planning, and documentation.
Immersive technology food science education Project Details
| Abstract |
This research looks at how immersive virtual reality (VR) and digital twins can be used in food science and chemical engineering classes, especially for handsβon lab training. Physical labs often have safety hazards and limited resources, so we built a digital twin of an active research lab and added interactive virtualβtour modules. The system shows contextual tooltips that point out required protective equipment and possible hazards. Special safety modules create virtual danger scenarios so students can practice spotting hazards, choosing the right gear, and following emergency proceduresβall in a safe, riskβfree setting. Different difficulty levels let the framework work as a preβlab preparation tool and as a postβlab assessment. The
approach shifts teaching from passive safety lectures to active, experienceβbased hazard handling. This digitalβtwin setup shows how immersive simulation can connect theory about process safety with realβworld lab work, helping students be better prepared and follow safety rules in chemical and foodβprocess engineering courses. Tests of the virtual modules show higher student engagement and a stronger grasp of safety protocols before entering the actual lab.
