innovative hybrid membrane pioneering metal oxide Project Details
| Abstract |
Heavy metal contamination in industrial effluents is dangerous because the metals are toxic and tend to accumulate in living organisms. This research focuses on creating and testing a new hybrid membrane that can more effectively remove toxic heavy metals from wastewater. The approach starts with cellulose acetate (CA) membranes. Nanoβgraphene oxide (NGO) and a polyethylene glycol (PEG) coating are added to lower biofouling and stop bacterial growth. Metalβorganic frameworks (MOFs) are then mixed into the CA matrix to boost separation efficiency and mechanical strength. Finally, a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) layer is grafted onto the surface to give the membrane selfβcleaning properties. The resulting hybrid membranes are examined for their structure,
shape, and thermal behavior using FTIR, XRD, SEM, TEM, and TGA. Their performance is judged by how well they reject chromium (Cr VI), iron (Fe III), and lead (Pb II) ions from real industrial wastewater samples, measured with inductively coupled plasma (ICP) analysis. This framework offers clear guidance for planning an M.Tech project on advanced membrane filtration technologies for treating industrial wastewater.
