Natural hydroxyapatite-based nanobiocomposites their biomaterials-to-cell Project Details

Abstract

This research direction explores the isolation, characterization, and biological evaluation of natural hydroxyapatite (HA) derived from caprine bone and dental sources for bone graft applications. Thermal calcination is utilized to extract high-purity HA, which is subsequently analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) to determine structural, chemical, and morphological properties. To enhance mechanical and biological performance, the isolated natural HA is integrated with metal oxides such as magnesium oxide, zirconium dioxide, and zinc oxide, alongside specific polymeric matrices to form advanced nanobiocomposites. The biocompatibility, osteoconductivity, and apatite-forming ability of these composites are systematically evaluated using multiple

cell lines, including MG-63, MC3T3-E1, L929, and mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Implementation support focuses on structuring the synthesis protocols, analyzing characterization data, and evaluating cell-material interactions. This methodology provides a comprehensive framework for developing sustainable, bio-derived bone graft substitutes with optimized osteogenic properties for orthopedic and dental tissue engineering.
