Fuel cell PV fed hybrid Project Details
| Abstract |
Integration of renewable energy sources, specifically photovoltaic (PV) systems and proton exchange membrane fuel cells (PEMFC), presents a viable pathway for sustainable power generation. However, managing the intermittent nature of these hybrid sources requires advanced power electronic interfaces. This research direction explores the implementation of a three-phase matrix converter (MC) fed by a hybrid PV-fuel cell system. To optimize power conversion efficiency and mitigate harmonic distortion, a three-dimensional Space Vector Modulation (3D-SVM) control strategy is investigated. The matrix converter provides direct AC-to-AC conversion, eliminating the need for a bulky DC-link capacitor, thereby improving system reliability and power density. The 3D-SVM algorithm is utilized to manage the switching states of the
matrix converter, ensuring balanced output voltages and sinusoidal input currents even under unbalanced source conditions. Through comprehensive simulation modeling, the performance of the hybrid system is evaluated under varying solar irradiance and fuel cell load conditions. The study provides critical guidance on structuring the control loop, optimizing the modulation index, and analyzing total harmonic distortion (THD). This framework serves as a valuable resource for project development support in high-efficiency hybrid renewable energy systems.
