Abstract

This project studies how to design, model, and test a non‑local metaspire elastic material that has separate mechanical modes. Conventional metamaterials usually show coupled mechanical responses, which makes it hard to use them for specific vibration isolation, wave‑control, or energy‑dissipation tasks. To overcome this, we develop a scalable elastic platform that uses non‑local structural interactions to keep the basic mechanical modes independent. We evaluate the metaspire geometry with finite‑element analysis and analytical models, testing it under many different loading conditions. The research looks at three main aspects: – the dispersion relations, – the formation of bandgaps, and – how efficiently the modes are decoupled, all across various geometric scales. By

changing the non‑local coupling parameters, we see how the overall elastic response is affected. This gives clear guidance for creating advanced mechanical metamaterials whose dynamic properties can be tuned widely. The resulting framework provides a solid base for designing next‑generation vibration isolators and acoustic filters, offering a step‑by‑step method to separate complex deformation modes in periodic elastic structures.
