Study Split Tensile & Flexural Project Details
| Abstract |
This research investigates the mechanical properties of High-Performance Concrete (HPC) incorporating a tertiary blend of supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) and hybrid fiber reinforcement. To address environmental concerns and carbon dioxide emissions associated with traditional cement production, the study evaluates the substitution of cement with a combination of mineral admixtures, specifically fly ash, metakaolin, and silica fume. A comprehensive experimental program involving thirty-two distinct concrete mixtures is structured to analyze the influence of critical design parameters. These parameters include the water-binder (W/B) ratio, the aggregate-binder (A/B) ratio, the dosage of combined mineral admixtures, and the volume fraction of hybrid fibers, which consist of crimped steel fibers and polypropylene fibers. The primary
focus of the evaluation is to determine the split tensile strength and flexural strength of the resulting tertiary concrete composites. By systematically varying the mix proportions, the research establishes the synergistic effects of hybrid fibers in arresting micro- and macro-cracks, while the ternary mineral blend enhances the microstructural density through pozzolanic activity. The output provides structured guidance for optimizing HPC mixes, offering a technical framework for sustainable, high-strength structural applications.
