A Stability Assessment Framework Standalone Project Details
| Abstract |
This project tackles the key technical problems of voltage and frequency instability in standalone hybrid renewable energy systems (HRES) when they contain a high share of renewable power. As conventional rotating inertia drops in inverterβdominated microgrids, keeping the system stable becomes harder because loads change quickly and generation is intermittent. To address these issues, we present a complete stabilityβassessment framework that uses: – Dynamic voltageβdeviation indices – Frequencyβresponse metrics – The Energy Valley Optimizer (EVO) to evaluate system behavior and find operating limits that satisfy stability constraints A case study of a remoteβcommunity microgrid shows that the critical renewableβpenetration threshold is about **85 %**. Above this level, voltage and frequency
swings reduce system reliability. The project offers stepβbyβstep guidance for: – Modeling the dynamic interactions between load and generation – Optimizing control parameters – Defining safe operating boundaries By simulating many penetration scenarios under different load profiles, the framework becomes a practical tool for planning, designing, and improving the stability of offβgrid hybrid power systems, supporting the move toward sustainable energy infrastructures.
