Insight into fracture behaviour mechanical Project Details
| Abstract |
This project framework gives clear steps for studying how the microstructure, tensile behavior, and fracture of AlSi10Mg alloys change when they are processed by equalβchannel angular pressing (ECAP). It sets up a sideβbyβside comparison of samples made by selective laser melting (SLM/LPBF) and by traditional casting. The plan uses several highβresolution tools to look at the materialβs interior, including optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, electron backscatter diffraction, and Xβray computed tomography (CT) to locate internal defects. To see how the material reacts to load and how cracks grow, the method combines inβsitu tensile CT scanning with loadingβunloadingβreloading (LUR) tensile tests. This lets us measure heteroβdeformation induced (HDI) stresses that come
from the buildβup of geometrically necessary dislocations in the heterogeneous regions. The framework helps researchers model the backward and forward stresses that cause extra work hardening, which explains why LPBFβprocessed parts show higher tensile strength and more elongation than cast parts. By offering organized documentation and experimental design steps, this resource supports academic work on deformation heterogeneity and fracture resistance in highβperformance, additively manufactured aluminum alloys.
