LEDs Underwater Optical Wireless Communication Project Details
| Abstract |
Underwater wireless optical communication (UOWC) can transmit data much faster and with lower delay than traditional acoustic systems. However, its performance drops sharply when the water is cloudy, contains chlorophyll, or has lots of suspended particles. This work surveys the latest LED technology for UOWC and looks at how choosing the right wavelength can reduce channel loss in different water types. In coastal waters, where chlorophyll and particles are the main absorbers, picking the optimal dominant wavelength is essential for getting the best link budget and the longest transmission distance. The paper also presents a lowβcost, practical UOWC setup that connects theoretical channel models with realβworld laboratory work. While highβpower
laser diodes can reach farther, LEDs offer a wider beam spread and are cheaper, making them ideal for shortβrange links that do not require precise alignment. The study points out that in very turbid water, scattering severely limits both bandwidth and range, regardless of the light source. Fried Engineers supplies research guidance, component advice, and structural support to help M.Tech students model these optical links, study attenuation curves, and design receiver frontβends for reliable underwater communication.
