Sliding Mode Hysteresis Controller-Based FOC Project Details
| Abstract |
Fieldβoriented control (FOC) of brushless DC (BLDC) motors is a key way to boost the efficiency and dynamic performance of lightweight electric vehicles. Conventional proportionalβintegral (PI) controllers often struggle when motor parameters change, when external loads vary, or when the system operates in nonlinear regions. To overcome these issues, this work investigates adding a slidingβmode controller (SMC) and a hysteresis current controller to the FOC scheme. The SMC runs the speed loop, giving strong tracking ability and high immunity to external torque disturbances. At the same time, the hysteresis controller manages the stator currents, delivering fast torque response and low ripple. A complete mathematical model of the BLDC drive is
built to examine both transient and steadyβstate behavior. Using systematic simulations, the combined control strategy is tested with different load patterns and speed profiles that mimic typical lightweightβvehicle operation. The study evaluates speedβtracking accuracy, torqueβripple reduction, and robustness against parameter uncertainties, laying a solid groundwork for advanced tractionβdrive applications.
